The standard rules give each player 1,500 at the start of the game. The rest of the money stays in the bank, which pays salaries, rewards and property sales.
Banknote breakdown per player
The classic 1,500 is usually dealt with these notes:
- 2 × 500 = 1,000
- 2 × 100 = 200
- 2 × 50 = 100
- 6 × 20 = 120
- 5 × 10 = 50
- 5 × 5 = 25
- 5 × 1 = 5
Total cash for the table
Multiply the starting money by the number of players: 2 players need 3,000, 4 players need 6,000, 6 players need 9,000 and 8 players need 12,000.
A typical modern classic set contains 30 notes of each denomination, about 20,580 in total. With 7 or 8 players the bank can run short of some notes, especially 500s, which is when a digital bank helps.
